CELEBRATE the closing of Project ELF !!!

The U.S. Navy announced the closing of Project ELF in September of 2004. The transmitter was shut off on September 30.

Navy to shut down radio transmitters in Wisconsin, Michigan

Nukewatch helped coordinate a decades-long campaign of protests, encampments and nonviolent direct actions against the Navy's continued operation of a giant ELF(extremely low frequency) radio transmitter in Northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan which was designed to coordinate a massive, coordinated multi-submarine attack by submarine-launched-ballistic nuclear missiles.

There had been a yearly spring gathering in May, and one in August for Hiroshima/Nagasaki days. Occasionally other events were held.

For a detailed description of the project, see: U.S. Navy Project ELF

See our Talking Points on Project ELF page for technical resources on the hazards posed by the operation of the ELF transmitter.
